RIP Michael Jackson

This is the first post I have made to my blog regarding Michael jackson since his death last week.  Not that I didn’t like the King of Pop but I tend to go against the flow, meaning if everybody talks about “A” I talk about “B”.  In this case, the story was hot (actually still is) and I wanted the raw emotions to die down.

“Raw emotions”?  Jackson was both loved and ridiculed while he was alive.  According to the media he was everything from a musical icon to a pedophile.  The sad thing is people tend to forget what they say about you or how they persecute you after you die.  This is not to say Michael Jackson didn’t do questionable things.  What he went through in the press though was a bit much.

This being said, I didn’t care for Michael Jackson the person.  Then again, ask my friends and they will tell you that I don’t really like anybody.  For one, I tend to set some difference between the artist and their work.  I know how to listen to the product and pay virtually no attention to the person who created it because in all honesty everybody makes errors in judgement.  I also tend not to put people on a pedestal.

I guess the point I am trying to make (since I am still not confortable talking about Jackson and his death) is that I will miss him.  Despite the media circus Michael Jackson made great music.  I bought most of the songs I like so I have no regrets.  When he made the news I didn’t make nasty remarks about him (whether I believed the accusations or not) so I have no regrets.  I am not that inclined to celebrate his life now since I did when he was alive.  I bought and enjoyed his music.

Rest in Peace Michael.  You deserve it.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more. When I see the pictures of the early Michael Jackson in the news I realize that I had already been missing him for about 35 years and I’ll Be There starts playing in my head.

  2. I must admit, he made lots of good songs.

  3. Hi Jon,

Nice looking blog. I like your point about separating the artist, as a person, from his art.

Hey, but let’s see your comments on other topics. We’ve been over saturated with Michael Jackson.

Just a thought but you may want to move your “about” information from your first post into the “about” section of the blog, which right now is blank.

    All the best,

Seth Shire (from the blogging class)
